The Black Stars of Ghana have secured their place into the semi finals of the ongoing AFCON for the 6th consecutive time after beating the Leopards of D.R Congo 2 - 1.

The game begun with the Stars on the back foot and almost resulted in a goal for Congo after some shambolic defending by Harrison Afful put striker Mbokani through on goal who rounded off keeper Razak Braimah beautifully but some how his shot hit the post.

The first half performance by the Stars was lackadaisical allowing the Congolese to dominate mostly in the center of the field although without creating much goal scoring opportunities.

The Black Stars came out in the second half a different team playing with much more drive and purpose and it wasn't long till Aston Villa's Jordan Ayew opened the scoring on 62 minutes, curling the ball past Ley Matampi in the Leopards goal.

Paul-Jose M'Poku equalised less than 5mins later for DR Congo with a sensational curling long-range effort from outside the box after some heavy lack of concentration by Ghana in defending a set piece that was taking quickly.

In the 78th min. However, West Ham's Andre Ayew coolly dispatched a penalty which was won by C.Atsu after he was brought down in the box. That goal not only sends Black Stars through but also means Andre Ayew is now tied with Asamoah Ghana as the highest scoring Ghanaian in AFCON history with 8.

Ghana will on Thursday play Cameroon for a place in the final.
