The third edition of Ghana-Nigeria Achievers Award(GNAA 2018) has been held in Accra, recognising and rewarding efforts made by nationals of the two West African countries in their positive contribution to the society.
The event held on Friday 13 July 2018, brought together entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, business experts, media and investors to the British Council Auditorium.
The program was setup by the Ghana-Nigeria Achievers Awards Foundation, as a platform to appreciate the effort of some individuals that are blazing the trail in their respective field of endeavor.
In his opening remarks, the CEO of the Foundation Comrade Barry Ndu Nwaihim, expressed his delight over the improvement of trade ties between anglophone countries and the need to sustain it for their mutual benefit.
"It is a thing of immense joy seeing citizens of these two great West African countries sitting together In the same venue In an atmosphere of love and unity to bond, share Ideas and get honored for good works being done," he said.
He underscored the need to recognise and honour individuals who have contributed positively to the society.
"We feel that it is important to celebrate men and women who put in their all to ensure a better society now that they are still alive, Comrade Barry said.
"It is sad that in this part of the world, most times achievers are allowed to die before so much money is spent burying them.
"This must not continue, we should honor our people who contribute positively to the Development of society when they are still alive," he added.
Selection of awardees placed emphasis the impeccable results some individuals have achieved through commitment to business growth, professional excellence and community service.
The 2018 edition, which was with the theme "Rewarding Hard work and celebrate Positive Effort towards Building a Belter Society ", saw several individuals being honored based on their positive contribution to the society.
Ghana and Nigeria have enjoyed long-standing relationship and have sought to continuously deepen ties in the areas of Business,Education, Energy, Communication, Transportation and Sports.
According to Comrade Barry Ndu Nwaihim, leaders of the two neighboring countries should take a second look at trade difficulties, which will ensure a smooth transaction of business.
"Furthermore, we kindly request that the President of Ghana and Nigeria should set up a team to look into the challenges of doing business in both countries," he said.
"As countries Within ECOWAS jurisdiction, we should be able to trade easily among ourselves.
"All bottlenecks that make it difficult for this to happen which may endanger the good relationship between the two countries should be removed going forward."
